About the area:
New
Brunswick is a bilingual (English/French) province. The population
of the island is about 2500 people, the town is Lameque at about 11 km (7 miles) from the house, it has a fairly large grocery
store, hospital, a couple of service station, library, etc. Just of the bridge to the mainland, at about 20 min from
the house is the town of Shippagan, it is a small university town with most services. After that you have Tracadie 35 min.,
Miramichi 70 min. and Bathurst 70 min. (Air Canada fly to Bathurst). Property taxes are about $460/year if it is your primary residence or about $920/year if it is your secondary residence.
Our cost for insurance is $610/year. Electricity is about $2,000/year living there year round (heating
in winter and A/C in summer) or about $35/month if nobody is there. There are no association fees but we
do chip in $20/year with the neighbors to maintain the street; the other fees are optional like phone, TV, and alarm monitoring.
